Travel Pains

Currently I’m on a USA Roadtrip adventure with my awesome husband Simon and my team mates Soozee and Leigh. It’s been really fun to drive, fly, and walk around new parts of the world. We’ve had a chance to meet our amazing Nasty audience and that has been just the highlight of each week. Getting hugs and chatting with so many amazing people is very inspiring experience!

That being said, traveling creates a lot of stress on anyone’s body, let alone people with illnesses! It can be tempting to just not travel and leave the house. However, I refuse to do that. So whenever I travel, I bring with me a must have travel kit for recovery. Yes, I’m that awkward person bringing a pillow AND a pig on my flight.

My Travel Kit

  • A favourite foldable ice pack
  • A light knee bracem
  • Two heavy-duty knee braces
  • An arm sling
  • A tensor bandage
  • Hot Cold Muscle rub
  • Throat Coat Tea (by Traditional medicinal)
  • A bottle of chewable multi-vitamins
  • A Pillow & my Pig (Captain Kogi)
  • Muscle Relaxant for inevitable back pain (I use Robaxacet which contains an analgesic (acetaminophen) to relieve pain and a muscle relaxant (methocarbamo
  • Extra Strength Advil (ibuprofen) which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug

After we flew from LA to Houston the flight totally wrecked me! It was a normal economy seat but I was stuck in the middle so I decided to watch a Japanese drama on my laptop. Which drama you ask? Kimi Wa Petto (You’re My Pet) which I’ve already seen but just love to pieces! Wahhhh Matsumoto Jun!!! FANGIRL FEELZ! He’s been in so many of my favourite Japanese manga remakes like Hana Yori Dango (the original Boys Over Flowers), Gokusen, and so many more! And did I mention he’s in the very famous Jpop group ARASHI?

For the whole flight I only got up once which is a big no-no for me and my joints but being stuck in the middle with a stranger guarding the aisle always makes for an awkward butt-to-face or crotch-to-face scenario. I realized too late that I was hyperextending my left elbow the whole flight by using it to prop up the weight of my whole body while I sat on an angle to fit my legs under the chair. When I got off the flight I realized my left arm was unable to bend shut! I haven’t dislocated my elbow this badly before and when I tried to fix it, my arm started violently quivering. I think I must have pinched a nerve via swollen muscles or something because it stayed like that for two days. Thank goodness I packed my travel kit with me because I discovered the USA doesn’t let you buy extra strength Advil OR muscle relaxant without getting a prescription which is totally different in Canada! It was a pretty rough time but by day three I managed to get out and enjoy Houston.

So what is in your travel kit? Any tips you can share about making a flight better? Oh, and any J-Drama fans out there? Please say yes because I got a lot of dramas to talk about…HAHAHAH!
